Defragging your Hard Drive

Defragging is a very simple process that should be done every few weeks just to keep things on your computer running as well as they can. Follow these simple steps and you will be on your way to a better running computer.

  1. Click on the start Icon.
  2. Click on "Computer" or "My Computer"
  3. Choose the Hard Drive you want to defragment. (usually the C: drive unless you have multiple hard drives.)
  4. Right click on the Icon for the Hard Drive you want to Defragment.
  5. At the bottom of the list of options that comes up choose "Properties"
  6. In the Properties Menu Click on "Tools"
  7. In the Tools section click on "Defragment"
The process of Defragmenting can take a few minutes to over an hour depending on the power of your computer and how much you have stored on the hard drive. Defragmenting moves files into their correct spots so that programs can run more smoothly. This is a necessary part of keeping your computer running at its best.
